I’ve been running through this town,
I’ve been combing every street.
I’ve been searching for the reason within reasons,
Been searching for the higher ground in me.
And I’ve been trying to surrender,
To trust in every word.
All my days of misery,
Someone could have taken them from me.

I’ve been searching for myself,
For oh so many times.
I’ve been searching for the answer within answers,
But no one seems to know what’s on my mind.
Craving for her love,
Aching for her touch,
All my days of misery, someone could have taken them from me.

So tell me where you are,
Tell me how you feel.
Tell me what you need,
Just tell me how you feel.
And let it all just rain on me,
Let it all just rain on me,
Let it all just rain on me….
Rain down on me.

If only for a day,
Oh if only for one night,
I could tell you this is everything that i have ever lived for,
But I’d be giving it all away.
So look into these eyes,
And tell me how you feel.
All my days of misery, someone could have taken them from me.

So tell me where you are,
Tell me how you feel.
Tell me what you need,
Just tell me how you feel.
And let it all just rain on me,
Let it all just rain on me,
Let it all just rain on me…
Rain down on me.

While I was taking photos of the Elephant Parade Rotterdam at Kop van Zuid last Sunday, a ship was heading to the docking area. Four sailors were waving at me and yelling “over here, over here” trying to get my attention. I though it was polite that I should wave back at them and then went on my business, taking more pictures of the elephants.

As I stood there between the elephants I heard them screaming something at me. I didn’t quite understand what they were saying so I walked toward Johan who was walking my way and asked what those men were saying. Since Johan was standing near the pier he was able to pick up the phrase “number 6 and fried rice” coming from the men just for me. Of course when they saw me talking to Johan, the sailors went silent. Later when the ship docked, the men were quietly working and didn’t even look my way.

I thought it was amusing that they thought I was Chinese and to associated me with a Chinese menu. I must have look just like any other Asians and therefore Chinese in their eyes. They were not Dutch sailors and it doesn’t really matter what country they came from. I can just easily call them a bunch of farangs since all farangs look the same?

Cosmetic tourism

Author: DJ
05.10.2007

According to NBC News’s coverage of cosmetic surgery in Rio de Janeiro, Americans spend about 12 billion dollars a year on cosmetic surgeries. It’s no wonder cosmetic tourism is a big business for countries like Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, and even Thailand.

Cosmetic surgery is the next big thing to come packaged with tourism in India. India promises cosmetic-surgery tourism for anything from hair implants, scalp reductions, rhinoplasty (reshaping or re-contouring of the nose), face-lift, cosmetic eyelid surgery, brow lifts, and sub-metal lipectomy for double chin, chin and cheek. Largely cost-driven and banking on international goodwill of Indian medicos, the initiative is hoping to benefit both hospitality and healthcare industry and become a standard in cosmetic surgery such as the Maryland Cosmetic Surgery already has become.

Rhinoplasty

Author: DJ
04.10.2007

From the Wikipedia, Rhinoplasty (Greek: Rhinos, “Nose” + Plastikos, “to shape”) is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, plastic surgeon, or ENT surgeon, in order to improve the function (reconstructive surgery) and/or the appearance (cosmetic surgery) of a person’s nose. Rhinoplasty is also commonly called a “nose job”. Rhinoplasty can be performed to meet aesthetic goals or for reconstructive purposes to correct birth defects or breathing problems. It can be combined with other surgical procedures such as chin augmentation to enhance the aesthetic results.

History

Rhinoplasty was first developed by Sushruta, an important physician (often regarded as the “father of plastic surgery”) who lived in ancient India circa 500 BC, which he first described in his text Susrutha Samhita. He and his later students and disciples used rhinoplasty to reconstruct noses that were amputated as a punishment for crimes. The techniques of forehead flap rhinoplasty he developed are practiced almost unchanged to this day. This knowledge of plastic surgery existed in India up to the late 18th century as can be seen from the reports published in Gentleman’s Magazine (October 1794).

The first intranasal rhinoplasty in the West was performed by John Orlando Roe in 1887. It was later used for cosmetic purposes by Jacques Joseph (b. Jakob Lewin Joseph) in 1898 to help those who felt that the shape or size of their nose caused them embarrassment and social discomfort. His first rhinoplasty patient was a young man whose large nose caused him such embarrassment that he felt unable to appear in public. He approached Joseph because he had heard of a previous successful otoplasty, or “ear job,” which the surgeon had performed.

How rhinoplasty is performed

Quality rhinoplasty should be performed as rhinoplasty in Washington DC. It can be performed under a general anesthetic or with local anesthetic, depending on patient or doctor preference. Incisions are made inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty). Sometimes, tiny, inconspicuous incisions are also made on the columella, the bit of skin that separates the nostrils (open rhinoplasty). The surgeon first separates soft tissues of the nose from the underlying structures, then reshapes the cartilage and bone causing the deformity.

In some cases, the surgeon may shape a small piece of the patient’s own cartilage or bone to strengthen or increase the structure of the nose. Sometimes this is done for cosmetic reasons (to improve the shape of the nasal tip, for example), or it may be done to improve breathing and function of the nose.

In rarer cases, a synthetic implant may be used to reconstruct the nose if the normal structure of bone and cartilage is badly damaged or weakened. Alloplastic synthetic materials are often associated with long-term complications such as migration and extrusion. Alternatively, cartilage from the septum, ear or rib may be used.

To improve nasal breathing function, a septoplasty may be performed, with or without cosmetic changes. The cartilage that is removed may be used as a graft to improve the appearance and structure of the nose.

Cooking for others

Author: DJ

I like to cook but only for myself. When I have to cook for other people that are not my parents or siblings, I tend to get nervous because I am afraid that I might make them sick from eating my food. The last BBQ party I had a couple of weekends ago turned out well. No one came forward and told me of any bad news. So far so good.

Would you trust this cook?

Video description: Kaitlin (Sans Rick) goes to the nursing home to visit her grandpa and put on a show for the old folks.

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced on October, 23, that a tentative settlement has been reached with the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), subject to ratification by the union membership, on an overall collective bargaining agreement. This new agreement will improve the quality of nursing homes in New York City because registered Nurses are a true scarcety on the present day labor market.”Nurses are the backbone of our hospitals and skilled nursing homes and play a vital role in our ability to offer quality patient care,” said HHC President Alan D. Aviles. “We are committed to offering competitive salaries and a supportive work environment that will allow us to attract and retain top nursing talent. With a nursing shortage still looming, the terms of this contract will help make a nursing career in the public hospital system that much more attractive to young women and men and can ensure that we can continue to meet the needs of our patients in the future.”

One of the most distinguished residents of Palm Beach, Florida, is gas and media tycoon George Lindemann Sr., one of the richest men in the world according to Forbes. With a net worth estimated at $1.5 billion, George Lindemann and his family are currently ranked 512th in Forbes’ list of The World’s Richest People 2006.

George Lindemann, however, is more than just your usual wealthy man. On top of being a smart and able business executive and a consummate family man, he also happens to be wealthy in a lot of other aspects. A patron of the arts, an influential philantrophist, a defender of civil rights and an avid sportsman are just some of the adjectives that best describe George Lindemann, the billionaire.

Born in 1936 in New York City, Lindemann went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. This education was put to good use, which shows in the resounding success of the many diverse enterprises he has entered into through the course of his life.

In 1958, he joined the cosmetics and hair care products company of his father, which eventually diversified into pharmaceutical products. Dabbling in eye, ear, nose and throat product research, as well as early research on intraocular lenses, Lindemann is primarily responsible for the development and marketing of the first permanent-wear soft contact lens, Permalens. This is where his fortunes began to rise and eventually make him one of the wealthiest men in the world

After selling his contact lens business to Cooper Labs for $60 million in 1971, Lindemann went on to become president of Vision Cable Communications, a pioneer in the cable television industry with New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Louisiana operations. From there, he became the president and CEO of Metro Mobile Communications, Inc., the second largest SMR (specialized mobile radio) dispatch company in the United States. Eventually, he sold the Metro Mobile cell service to Bell Atlantic for $2.6 billion in 1992.

At present, George Lindemann is the chairman of the board, president and CEO of Southern Union Company, which ranks as the second largest natural gas pipeline company in the United States. He has been the chairman and CEO of the company since 1990, while his position as president didn’t come until his appointment in November 2005. Lindemann and his family own about 10% of Southern Union. His family also currently holds a large stake in Verizon Communications. In addition to all this, he owns 19 Spanish-language radio stations.

An active supporter of the arts, Lindemann Senior sits on the board of the New Orleans Museum of Art, as well as that of the Metropolitan Club in New York City. He is also on the board of directors of the International Class A Yacht Association, Perto Cervo, Sardinia, Italy. Ever the avid sportsman, Lindemann also happens to be the proud owner of the 180-foot schooner named Adela that took the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2005 at Porto Cervo, Sardinia, Italy.

Nip/Tuck Makeover

Author: DJ
01.10.2007

A woman gets transformed into the character Kimber from the hit TV series Nip/Tuck.2000, Brazil became the capital of Plastic surgery on a per capita basis, surpassing the United States. A legacy of beautiful Brazilians–starting with the lore associated with the song “Girl from Ipanema,” to current super model Gisele Bundchen and a parade of buxom models, many of them customers at Fort Myers cosmetic plastic surgery, who have succeeded her– has created the perception that Brazilians have cornered the market on pulchritude perfection. And Brazilians are unabashed in admitting to a little help from a surgeon’s hands: in Brazil, it’s more important to be perfect than to be natural.
