    Darly,
You know I loved Alexandra’s last lakorn, but this one I’m not too keen on. I’m not loosing sleep over it by staying up late watching it. The accent is annoying.  The directions of the movie in regards to actions, sequence and story line seems disjointed.  As for her character, I’m tired of her raising her fist at the guys as if that is to symbolize her physical or mental toughness.  It doesn’t work.  Her character is not believeable to me.  She just doesn’t come across well as a “tough” individual.

    Hi Karmadiva,

Thank goodness that I am not the only one feeling this way. For awhile there I thought I am the only bad guy here for not loving this lakorn enough but I was being honest about how after one episode I couldn’t take it anymore. I had to mute it so I can record it for you guys to watch.

Of course I get bits and pieces during the cropping of the video but the theme is still the same. Ray Rai raises her fist at just about anyone and the phrase “Pak thake sum bor” which I still don’t know the exact meaning in Lao language. I have never heard any Lao man or woman, boy or girl said such a thing in my life before so I can only guess that it means something like “do you want me to smash your mouth or pound your mouth with my fist so you can bleed” or something along that line.

I don’t understand why Alexandra took such a role. It doesn’t leave us with a good memory of her acting at all. I laughed and cried with Pleng Ruk Rim Fang Khong. Even though it was her first acting role as Champa and she was not that good but with Weir they pulled it off as a couple beautifully. They were believable as a couple and if they would have worked on a second soap together in Pood Mae Nam Khong with Alexandra being gone for 2.5 years the fans would still be talking about the two soaps for a long time.

This Ray Rai character doesn’t suit her and I don’t want to look at it because I don’t like to see how Alexandra acts with her face and the way she talks. Like you said, it’s just plain annoying with the accent. I’m Tai Vieng Chanh myself and I can’t imagine hearing anyone speaks like that. If that is my baby sister talking like that, I swear I would pull her into a room and spank her, lol.

There is also no chemistry with Cee Siwat. It’s like watching two classmates talking to one another. At least with Nam Rapeepat there is a bit of connection there.

I think Ray Rai could be tough without having to act like a Nuk Leng if you know what I mean. I understand the character not having a mother but she has a God parents to take care of her and she could at least manage a bit of social grace. So, I agree with you that the character is not believable at all, not someone that we can connect with.

DJ, I have to agree with you that if Alexandra had done another movie with Weir, it would have been a better career move for her.  Pleng was not the best soap, but her chemistry with Weir  made her character more likeable and believeable.
I know in one of the vids you posted awhile back, she was saying how the “character” in the new Lakorn was more like her own personality in real life.  Was she trying to say that she is not like Champa in Pleng because she is not meek, sweet, and naive?  Is she trying to say that in the character in this new Lakorn is like her because she is brave, “tough” and outspoken?  What do you think?

LT, I hope it’s safe to come in and make comment ;) . From what I understand and heard from her interviews, she is a tomboyish, and loves to climb trees. I think this is more of the real her, to some people this is very cute, but to some it’s a turn off.

  5. karmadiva Says:

Hi, Nye! Well, since I am an easy “target”  according to Padek, you better not stand so close in case you get hit as well!:)
I am just a little disappointed in this new Lakorn, but I am still a fan.

Karmadiva, I’ve been there and done it, I’m more like a sitting duck. It just goes to show that we all have different backgrounds, believes and certain topic, there is no common ground, but we’ve to accept our differences.
I didn’t have a chance to watch the Lakorn yet, I only saw the first episode, but I like the music, I think I’m getting the sound track for this.  I do have to admit that I like her music and not her acting, I can separate the two.

  7. Laotian Teacher Says:

    Nye,
I bought the Pleng CD online from Thailand and it was so cheap!  It was only like 7.50.  I love her singing traditional songs.  I don’t like her rapping.  I think I’m watching the movie just for the songs!

  8. Padek Says:

That’s why Buddhist countries are so poor. They will accept every difference, even from potentially fascist oppressors. And they love playing victim ;)

  9. Nye Says:

Aren’t we being a bit mean here by making generalized statement and, insulting the whole Asian population? … must be the humane thing to do.  :(

LT, I also order my Thai music from Thailand, and the price is very reasonable, anywhere from $4 to $5 dollars (it used to be less, but they recently increased their price) + shipping (some CDs might be more), and if you order many, it’s not that bad, you might come out about $6 per CD. They are very prompt with their delivery, and I’ve ordered several times, the last order, they even gave me a free CD, link below.
