Dutch train delay

Author: DJ
04.07.2008

On April 17, 2008 I was on a train from Leiden Centraal to Rotterdam Centraal. The train came to a complete stop a few minutes before we were about to enter Rijswijk. Later we heard a message on the intercom about not being able to go through the Rijswijk tunnel. Apparently a train ahead of us was caught on fire. Our train headed back to Den Haag HS. Everything came to a complete stop. There was no train heading back to Leiden Centraal. People were pouring into the trams and going all directions since it was almost 17:00 hour.

As for me I didn’t panic. I just walked around the streets near the train station and took some pictures. Later there was a train going in the direction of Leiden so I got on it and spent a sometime at the computer lab surfing the net. By 20:30 hour I ventured back to Leiden Centraal and things were getting back to normal with train going to Rotterdam about every 30 minutes. I bought some bread and juice and ate my dinner in the train on the way home.
